There are some families that just ooze kindness. From their fingers to their toes. From the big ones to the little ones. And the Turnbulls are one. Who would expect to have their car washed as they worked? But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. This family are one kind breed of human being!

I spent a beautiful, albeit blustery day with the Turnbull Family at their completely idyllic home, atop a hill in Aydon, Northumberland.

Their home really is something from dreams. Set in glorious Northumberland countryside surrounded by rolling fields, sheep, cows and even a Rhododendron forest. The cottage itself is cosy, with mementos of their cherished lives together, a roaring log fire and the trails of devastation [sorry] fun, left astrewn by three adorable children.

I followed them about for the day as they went about their daily routine. Daddy Bear Stu lovingly (and I really mean lovingly) prepared porridge for the family. We then braved the elements and took a stroll, bracing ourselves against the wind. Little Fergus loving moments, fearing others, and cowering into Claire Bear’s neck for shelter. We then headed back to the cottage to warm our cockles and enjoy a spot of lunch. Amelia and Harvey then proudly showed off their 100, yes 100, bars of chocolate that they had won at the local pumpkin carving competition. With Gussy safely tucked up in bed for his nap, we headed out again to do some “jobs.”

I love that they put on no pretence. They cleaned cars, cleaned the chicken coop, cleared veg patches. I loved that they really gave me the chance to capture them, truly, really.

After the jobs were done (including partially washing my car), we enjoyed a little R&R indoors before Stu took Amelia and Harvey over to Nanny’s house for tea. This left Claire Bear and little Gussy home alone for some real Mummy/Baby quality time and allowed me to capture some beautiful intimate moments between the two over bath and bedtime.
