I’m celebrating 6 years in Business and continuing to look back on my family photography sessions to see what these sessions mean to my families. Today we’re revising the Turnbull Family (another one! and unrelated!)
‘The right mix of chaos and love’ from Claire, the Turnbull family
Claire has done so many sessions for me, from a family session to a toddler cake smash to lockdown stories and my Wedding, she even secretly filmed my Hen do!! OK, so full disclosure, I am lucky enough to be really good friends with Claire, we met at mums group with the kids and she has been there to capture some really big moments in my life. Moments that have been converted from images and films to pictures, canvasses and captioned polaroids.
One of my favourite sessions was the family session documenting our daily routine with Fergus at 18months old. This included bedtime, bath time and ‘snuggle’ time, it’s just so personal to me. After every bedtime feed, Fergus and I would give each other butterfly kisses, it’s just so special to me and it’s something we still do now and Claire got it on film; in fact it’s now a huge canvas on our living room wall. Even just the one whereby Fergus is in his high chair, eating porridge because when they’re really little, you totally forget about the routine but we’ve got it on film!
During that same session, she captured us on a windy winter walk. Claire just captures everything; the lovely family moments and even Fergus’s meltdown as he refused to put one foot infront of the other!! Even the “mundane” chores looked great in the photos: the kids washing the cars, me cleaning out the chickens. And then Fergus’ big brother and sister, Amelia and Harvey leaving to go back home on Sunday night, it’s all part of our routine, but it’s special to us and having that documented is lovely.
Claire also gave us a lovely bunch of captioned polaroids. There’s one of Stu with Fergus on his shoulders which made a lovely fathers day photo.…there’s a lovely family portrait of Stu, myself and the kids, captioned “the right mix of chaos and love.” I just love that photo.
Claire just puts you at ease, you don’t even realise she is there, she’s so inconspicuous she just captures natural moments that capture how you’re feeling. I mean every time I watch the slide show, I cry.
It’s just her style of photos, I don’t know anyone else else that does it like her, she just gets it.
I’m so grateful to her for being able to look back at these days and these moments.

The Turnbulls. Claire. What can I say? It’s been an absolute pleasure being able to document these special moments for you. Not only letting me into your home, but also asking me to be part of your wedding day when I’d only ever shot one other wedding – what trust you had in me – I’ll always be grateful. To hear you speak about the memories and moment we capture with such love means so much. I know that photography is literally the gift that keeps on giving, and I know your house is full of those gifts – those little glimpses of the past that you hold so dear.
During our sessions together, As a new mum myself, I remember how lovely it was to spend that day with you and see a day in your life as a mum with the same struggles and delights that I had….still one of my favourite ever photos is of Fergus throwing his food on the floor to make you pick it up – the cheeky little monkey! And then onto ‘Wellygate’ at your hen do …. this time you really didn’t know what I was up to – but putting that video together for you was the most fun and takes me right back to that weekend every time I watch it. Thank you so much for letting me capture your life for you and most importantly, letting me be a part of it too. Big hugs xxxx
