Sarah D Scandle (don’t you love the name – should be a member of a girl band!) recently invited me into her home in the sleepy village of Acomb to capture her at work.
By day, Sarah is a Nursery Manager at, I must say, a very beautiful nursery in Hexham, the rest of the time, a mother and wife, and somewhere sandwiched in between, an artist.
I stumbled upon Sarah’s work on Facebook. Taken by her image of a highland cow licking his lips. I have a thing for farm animals, and I just loved how Sarah captured this beautiful creature, thinking – I’d love a print just like that for our home (our kitchen walls feature various chickens, cows, guinea fowl and so on).
Sarah had just launched her Facebook page, promoting her work and I wanted to help.
It’s no doubt that beautiful images can sell anything! A soap, a car, artwork! In a past life, I was a marketer. For my sins. But that means, I understand how impactful images can convey the right messages, look and feel. I therefore wanted to help Sarah develop a few assets that could help to make her page just look a little more polished. At the same time, tell her story.
So I spent just an hour documenting Sarah at work, at home. Sarah creates most of her masterpieces from her kitchen. Normally on a Monday whilst her lovely boys Oliver and Samuel run around, devour Mini Cheddars and also join in with the art creation process.
Little Samuel was classic. Asking to use Daddy Pig as a model, instead of painting Daddy Pig, he actually painted Daddy Pig. Fabulous! I love how literal children are. On the other hand, Oliver enjoyed writing stories and creating picture books.
All the while, Sarah somehow juggled keeping the kids from painting each other or the kitchen furniture, serving more snacks to two growing boys and creating a beautiful piece of artwork, so serenely.
I wish Sarah all the best. I truly hope she goes from strength to strength. I should say she’s about to be published for the first time, so be sure to keep an eye on her facebook page to see where you can purchase the book.
