I thought I would post a few photos from a mini-unscripted session today. Liesl and Dave have been frantically working on their home in Northumberland now for a year or so. Dave has gallantly done so much of the work himself. Gutting the house from top to bottom, building an extension, installing a new kitchen. It’s been blood sweat and tears. Add to the mix arrival of baba number two, and you can imagine how tough it’s been. No one wants to live in a building site at the best of times, let alone with a baby.
So I was delighted when Liesl asked me to come and capture some memories for them. Primarily because she realised that Seb was getting bigger by the day and would soon be walking and therefore officially no longer a baby. But I was particularly glad that she still asked me to do an in-home session even though in Liesl’s mind (and any woman would be the same) the house was still a mess.
I actually really like it when some DIY project is going on in the home. Why? Because it dates the photos. For the parents especially, when looking back at the photos then come the comments about the wallpaper, the carpet, the wall you knocked down yourself, the water-leak you created, the rewiring bill. It actually creates a deeper photograph. Because these photos, in this setting, will automatically spur on SO MANY MEMORIES. About buying the house, moving day, the day you brought baby home, eating out of the microwave for a month, the problems you had with the builder, the drill that packed up.
So my point is. If you’re going through a house renovation and your home looks like a bomb hit it, THIS IS THE TIME TO HAVE YOUR PHOTOS TAKEN. They might not have the aesthetics you really want, hey we can always go for a walk in the park for a pretty picture, but if you want photos that TELL A STORY – DIY time – that’s the TIME!
So don’t put off the in-home shoot and I look forward to hearing from you – just complete the form on this page and we can chat! In the meantime, here are a few lush photos of Liesl, her superstar DIY hubby and Lex and Seb. xx
