I know I keep banging on about this, but time really doesn’t stand still.  Your little family can more or less change over night.  Those little cute things little Freddy does today, he possibly won’t do again tomorrow.  And whilst we’re too busy saying “hold on”, “in a minute”, “just a sec” – we’re missing it!

Documentary photography is all about allowing you to take stock.  To a) enjoy a morning or a day with your family, uninterrupted where you possibly can avoid the “in a minute” and b) enabling you to reflect.

The role of the documentary photographer is not to only create ART, but to capture the little things that you might not notice, or that you certainly will forget.  The photographer will notice.  Will capture.  Will record.  For your family history.  It’s their job.

The lovely Amy, editor of Raring2Go Northumberland kindly had the following to say about her recent Unscripted Session with her family:

I was so touched seeing the slideshow of our pictures. It was like taking a step back from my family and looking at them and appreciating them in a different way. We are often so busy with everyday life and are in the moment that we don’t see or appreciate little things.  However, Claire can capture these and present them as beautiful images but also as a documentary. I can imagine watching our family film together in years to come, laughing at Louie tottering around in his sister’s high heeled dressy up shoes and Isla walking down the stairs like she’s a bride dressed up as a fairy.

I would highly recommend having a chat with Claire to see how she can capture your family moments, but remember don’t put it off for too long as they don’t stay little for long!

I can’t express how much it means to me to learn that my photography and films can touch people so deeply.  I love that I’m giving people the gift of time, in a way.  I love that in 20 years time families will have captured one day.  It’s so nice to think that they will be able to share those memories together for always and really remember WHO they were all that time ago.

That’s why I ask you to NOT WAIT.

Don’t think that your house is a mess, that you need to lose weight, that you’ll wait til the better weather.  Just do it.  Just book a session.  I can adapt my sessions to suit most budgets.  I can also extend sessions to cover more than just one day.  Perhaps you’re going on the holiday of a lifetime and would like that captured forever too?  Just get in touch.  And if money is a problem, I’m happy to discuss an instalment programme, to help you budget for your session.  And remember, whilst I do offer the option of buying beautiful story books following your session, ultimately, you will receive ALL THE IMAGES!  No catch.  No crazy fees for individual prints.  You’ll receive a USB with all the high resolution, print ready files so that you could do what you wish with them, be it print them or just file them to look at another day.

AND – remember, with my Unscripted Sessions, you also get a film.  So you can really get to FEEL the day.  Watch the waddling first hand, relive the dancing, remember the laughter.

So, here’s The Graham Family’s film (above).  Just a 2 minute cut down version.  Enjoy.  And should you feel inspired to capture your own EveryDay, get in touch.  Let’s chat.  Or just fill in the following form.  I want to help as many families as possible preserve their EveryDays for tomorrow.  I look forward to hearing from you.
